Gracie Barra was founded in Rio de Janeiro in 1986 by Master Carlos Gracie Jr. and has grown into one of the largest Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu organisations in the world. Every Gracie Barra school teaches the same structured curriculum, follows the same standards, and welcomes the same broad range of people — from first-time beginners to competitors, from three-year-olds to grandparents.
Our Leonia academy brings that programme to Bergen County with a facility designed around it: one large continuous mat, a dedicated striking area, proper changing rooms and showers, a comfortable place for parents to watch, and easy parking right outside.

Organized
Classes follow the Gracie Barra curriculum, so techniques build on each other in a deliberate order instead of a different move every night. You always know where you are and what comes next — and the same programme is taught at any Gracie Barra school you visit.

Disciplined
Classes start on time, warm up properly, drill with intent and finish with controlled live training. Instructors watch the room. Beginners are matched carefully. Intensity is something you choose, not something that is done to you.

Respectful
Clean mats, clean uniforms, hands shaken before and after every round. Ego stays off the tatami. It is the reason a nervous first-timer and a seasoned black belt can train side by side in the same session.
